Get In Line

Talk about a multitasking makeup item — one eyeliner can provide very different looks for your peepers. Lining your eyes places emphasis on one of your most lively features and can provide a touch of needed polish on a day when you are truly short on time. Eyeliner is no doubt a must-have that you can do so much with.

The perfect cat eye 1 - imageEyeliner comes in several forms and there are pros and cons to each. Liquid liner tends to give a harder, more dramatic (although more artificial) line. If you prefer the liquid variety, use it on your top eyelid only, as it is too harsh of a look for use on lower lids.

Of course, there are eyeliner pencils which are great for natural techniques. Some powder eyeshadows can function as liner when used with a wet eyeliner brush.

Pencils are best for contact lens wearers, as liquid liner can sometime flake and fall into the eyes.

Types of Eyeliners and How to Use Them

If you are just beginning to wear makeup, you may be overwhelmed by the many types and brands of eyeliners out there. Depending on what look you want to achieve, you will want to use different eyeliners to get that desired result. Listed below are the best examples of eyeliners I know of, and the most common ways to apply them.

PENCIL EYELINER

urban-decay-eyeliner.jpgThis is the most commonly used liner as it is very easy to manage and control. Pencil eyeliners are just like any other pencil that you sharpen when needed. To apply, you simply “draw” on the line close to your lashline.

If you would like to have a color on your waterline, these are generally the best type to use.

Pros:

  • Very easy to control.
  • Comes in a wide range of colors.
  • Very common and easy to find in every brand of makeup.

Cons:

  • Unless you sharpen really well, it does not provide as crisp a line.
